As the name suggests we will scrape away the scale which has built up on your teeth.  This is similar to that which affects your kettle or shower head.

A modern term for this is PMPR,

PROFESSIONAL mechanical plaque removal, this essentially makes your teeth and gums easier to clean at home with PtMPR,

 

PATIENT mechanical plaque control - a tooth brush!

 

If left this can build up to quite large amounts which will increase your risk of

 

• gum disease

• halitosis - bad breath

• poor oral hygiene

• tooth loss

 

To complete the process we can then polish your teeth to remove superficial stains.  PMPR is usually intended as a preventative measure for healthy patients who want to keep the teeth clean, but can be part of an initial gum treatment regime.
